Body Glide Liquified Powder - review

I couldn't find any pictures on the net (wasn't able to copy image from their website). So you get a crappy picture from my iphone!

I read the instructions and then applied the lotion on and in between my toes... 'cause that is where I blister. I did not have any clean Injinjis so I wore my Wright Socks. It was easy and pleasant to put on..... had a tingle due to the menthol. It was not messy or greasy. Scoring pretty good so far.

My run was a 10 miler in the blistering sun. The temperature was 32 degrees (89.6F) and it was mid afternoon and not a cloud in the sky. I was so hot that my ears were sweating because I had earbuds in them. So you can only imagine how sweaty my feet were!!

After my shower I inspected my "piggies" and wouldn't you know it... no new blisters!!! I had 2 small blisters going into the run, and they were a little puffier, but not larger. I have to say that I am pleasantly surprised. I am not sure how it will hold up during a 20 mile run, but for now I am quite happy with the results!

Bought a pair of runners... now I'm confused.

I purchased a pair of Brooks Glycerin 7 running shoes today. I tried on several pairs and various brands. I was happy with my purchase until I got home.

I wondered to myself why I didn't just stick with the shoes I was already using. I purchased a pair of Nike Air Structure Triax + 11 when our local Nike store was going out of business. Got them for a cool $75!

I decided to use them until I could find "The Perfect Pair" (as my shoes were discontinued). I never really thought of the "Nikies" as being a contender. I can't think of any problems with the shoes. I have never paid attention. I will do my 11 mile run today and really pay attention to how the shoes feel. Maybe these are the perfect pair and I didn't realize it! If I really like the Nike then I will have to go back and exchange.... and pay the extra $15!

Body Glide has come out with a new product. It is a liquified powder that is to be used as a skin lubricant. It says that it is a technically advanced anti- friction formula and to use where needed. I've got it in between my toes and where my right upper arm rubs against my skin (just a bit lower than the armpit). I must swing that arm too much!!! Will let you know how it works out.

Change of season

I thought that I would change the background of the header to reflect the new season.

Today's run consisted of a few hills and some paved paths. It has been rainy here and I didn't feel like getting muddy on the trails. 4 miles.

p.s. I forgot to mention that "CHIPOTLE" is one of my favorite words. I like the way it rolls off the tongue. Cheboygan is my other favorite word (for the same reason). Every time we head upnorth I get to say "I am gonna eat chipotle in Cheboygan!!!!"

Dallas, Texas part two

This is a women's rest room sign... I thought it was quite clever! It was in the Mexican restaurant Chipotle.

This was the lunch at the restaurant. Sat out on the patio!

This was the most amazing water feature that I have ever seen. There were several levels with small waterfalls and a grand display at the base of it (not pictured). I noticed it on my way to the Dallas Museum of Art. They were hosting the King Tut exhibit. They also had a few Picasso and Matisse paintings that were a must see.

This is the administration building that boasts the Sixth Floor Museum. It was a great tour!

The weather was very warm. I was surprised to learn that it gets very humid in Dallas, Texas. I had assumed that it would be a dry heat.

I did not get a chance to taste anything deep fried.... unless chicken tenders count?

I only got the one run in and one session in the gym.... a bit disappointing. I came back to 29 degree weather (31 with the humidex (87F). It made for a very difficult 7 mile run yesterday. Mostly because I was quite dehydrated from my trip!

Bloggers Unite!

This is where I had lunch yesterday. It was a perfect day for patio dining!

These pics are from my run yesterday. I have deducted that people must feed the cranes here... I got so close and she didn't even bat an eyelash!

Today, I finally got to meet Derek. It was like seeing an old friend. He picked me up and treated me to lunch. After lunch he took me sight seeing. He's a super great guy!

Thanks so much for your generous hospitality Derek. I hope one day to be able to return the favor.

Long run!

Today I headed out for a fifteen mile run. Got lost, found my way,
ran out of water, found a water fountain just as I was going to
collapse. The taller fountain was not working, it felt like a mirage.... I wanted to die!
Luckily the lower fountain worked. I drank too much and had some gi
issues. Beautiful weather and a nice breeze. My shoulders got a tad
burnt.

Derek got in touch with me and we're gonna do lunch tomorrow!

Having drinks after the conference dinner!! More to follow! Bye!

More of waiting in the airport...

Originally we were asked if we would take a different flight (airline overbooked) and we said no. But have since changed our minds... Andrew is checking into taking a later flight. If we take a later flight we get a $300 Northwest credit and food vouchers. Not sure if it's $300 a person or all together. We don't mind sitting here on our computers drinking and eating... all the while getting paid!!! Unfortunately, we may have been beaten to the punch because we didn't chose the option earlier. Keep your fingers crossed!!!!

update: didn't work... we're leaving!

Waiting in the airport.

We're in the world perks lounge, where the liquor is free (so is the
wireless). Andrew won't do a retake even though I don't like this pic
of me ; )

Notice that I ended up buying the bag that matches my Nine West boots!!

Texas, here we come!!

Which Pair?????

Case 1:
I have had my eye on these boots for almost a year now. I thought that they would match a leather jacket that I have (the burnished black pair... I think they look brown). I want them for the motorcycle. I want to be a bit different and not just go with the basic black boots, coat and chaps.

Cost: $220 plus applicable taxes

Case 2:
I am at about 250 miles on my present running shoes. I should be in the market for a new pair. I am switching brands so I would like to get the new ones while my weekly runs are still relatively short. There is nothing worse than trying to break in a new pair of shoes on long runs.

Cost: approx. $160 plus taxes

What do you think?

Today I did a 7 mile run and may do some leg work if I get the energy. My hip flexors are sore after this run. I am going to run again tomorrow and do some trails and hills. I will have to take it easy as I am not used to consecutive runs, and I don't want to ruin a good thing! Tomorrow I may also do an upper body workout.

Chow.

Just random stuff.

This Sunday I will be heading South to Texas where I will eat my first deep fried peanut butter and jelly sandwich! My mini vacation will be relaxing and fun! I plan on getting my 15 mile run done and at least 2 P90X upper body workouts and some leg work. I hope to get a chance to meet up with my blogging buddy Derek.

I have planned out my training schedule for the next 5 months.... that will bring me to the Alzheimer Day 100 km run (September 19). I am very optimistic that I will be recovered and remain injury free. It's nice to have my schedule mapped out. Big sigh!

Today's workout will consist of a 4 mile run and P90X Shoulders and Arms dvd ( I think that is what it is called?! I never learned them all by name).

Today is just beautiful! It actually feels like spring. I am going to enjoy being able to put a skort on! No fussing with long pants, gloves, and jackets etc.

I had better get dressed so I can get out and enjoy my run.
later!

p.s. Congratulations to all who put in the hard work and qualified for The Boston Marathon. Go out there and have some fun!!!

Gale force winds + 14 mile run = blog post material

Today I headed out toward the stretch of road that I loving refer to as " The Wind Tunnel". Normally, the head wind happens on the return trip (I generally do an "out and back"). Today was different.... I went out, and once I turned into the wind tunnel, I had a head wind that surpassed any wind that I have ever experienced.

This wind was unrelenting. The wind took off my hat 2 times before I started running with my chin tucked into my chest. It was so strong that I don't think I had more than 8 breaths in 7 miles. I think that my body just absorbed the oxygen through my skin. Isn't that is what happens to a skydiver... they don't breathe but, get oxygen through their skin (I can't remember where I heard about that.... I could very well be pulling it of my ass??!!!).

The wind never stopped the whole 7 miles out. I couldn't breathe and I hardly drank any water because I didn't want to lift my head. I kept counting down the miles until I could turn around... I secretly feared that the wind would change direction as I headed back (not unusual for the wind to change direction in the county).

I made it to mile 7 and got to turn around. It felt like a 40 pound weight had been lifted off my chest. I couldn't breathe normally... my chest felt like I had been swimming ( remember swimming as a kid... you got out of the water, and took a deep breath, and your chest hurt?!). It took at least 3 miles for my breathing to regulate.

The wind at my back made me feel like I was running down hill. I was excited because I knew it wouldn't take much time to get back home!! It felt like someone was pushing me.... I think I smiled the whole way!

I ended up averaging 10 minute miles... not too bad since the first seven were probably about 15!!!!

Running Movies..... get out your pop-corn!!!

Today I was inspired to look into movies/ films/ documentaries etc. based on running. I was very excited to find this website:
I was astounded on how many movies there are (note: some are just loosely based on running). Check it out HERE!

Today, I will be going for a 5 mile run. Legs feel good from yesterday. I need to start completing back to back runs. Today will give me an idea of how my legs are progressing.

I was going to do some weights but my neck and shoulders have been killing me. I am having "pillow issues". Years ago, I purchased a cervical pillow. It did wonders for me.... I never woke up with a crook in my neck, my back always felt great, etc, etc. Unfortunately, pillows don't last forever and the foam pillows can't be washed and then put in the dryer (BIG friggen mess... who knew???!!!).

I have been through about 5 more cervical pillows and can't find one like my first. All cervical pillows are not created equally! If anyone knows of a great brand please post a comment (mentioning where I can find it would be great also)!!!!

Thanks : )

Technical difficulties!

I have been unable to post via my computer because Andrew is using
most of the bandwidth to upgrade his computer and it makes posting dreadfully time consuming. (This comes from my iphone)

Did a five mile run today. I really hadn't eaten much and bonked at
mile three. Luckily I had a gel to get me through the last couple.

The traveling gnome happened to be in Vegas while we were there! I
didn't mention to him that I booked through Expedia..... LOL

Physiotherapy

I finally started my physiotherapy today. I go to Laoring Physiotherapy in Tecumseh, Ontario. It is the best place to go if you have a sports injury of any kind. This time around I am seeing Mary. I had tried to get in to see her before but she's hard to book (that is why I took so long to start physio).

My hamstring was a bit tender today when I awoke.... I am certain it had nothing to do with running 11ish miles yesterday.... hee hee

Mary assessed me and worked on my lower back and hamstring. Why my lower back? My L5 & L4 vertebrae are messed up, causing me to compensate with my hips which leads to a whole assortment of nasty things for my legs. She told me to continue to run and she will clean up my mess! Gotta love her!

Mary is an accomplished runner in her own right. She qualified, and went to Boston a few years back. She has just return to running after recovering from an injury last August. I love that she understands me and doesn't think I am strange or insane for wanting to run more than marathon distances. She thinks I am a bit crazy... all ultra runners have to have a bit of "crazy" in them!

p.s. Mary is pictured above in the pamphlet. She is in the middle photo.

Do as I say.....

I made a decision today. I decided to do what I know to be wrong, in the hopes that I could start to catch up. When a new runner is starting out, one of the first things that they learn is to only increase their distance by 10% a week. I have thrown that out the window... my longest run in the past 2 months had been 5 miles (and there were only a handful). I decided to increase my mileage to 8 miles then a couple days later (today) I decided to run 11.4 miles. I was sore after the 8 miles and am sure to be sore tomorrow. Bad Stacey!!!!!

Once I stopped running for a long period of time I knew that I had to start back at the beginning. The hardest part is knowing that I had been able to run an insane amount of miles and now I physically can not. It is humbling to say the least. Increasing my mileage so drastically was probably not the best decision in the world..... but I think I will be ok (this time :)

"Do As I Say... Not As I Do!"

8 Miler!

Last night I got in an 8 mile run. I was very happy because it was pain free and I didn't wear any compression garments or braces.

My hamstring was sore at first and then it went away. Then my knee felt like it was going to act up... but it didn't. My shins started to ache but stopped. I think that my body is just not used to it anymore and I am just too paranoid about causing further injury. It turned out to be a really great run!

I am a bit anxious/ nervous about increasing my mileage. I really need to get on track with my training. I only have a couple of weeks to get up to a 15 mile run. I am undecided on how, or if, I am going to achieve it.

p.s. I finally got my "official" acceptance letter via email, for the San Francisco marathon.

I will leave you with a Vegas pic.... on our way through a mall back to the hotel to pick up our luggage to leave for the airport. We ran into some of America's finest... three sweet, young navel officers!
